Freshly made soft tofu
Tantan’s centrepiece is the soft tofu made in-house before each market session. Silky and delicate, it is spooned up rather than picked up in firm pieces. Among the stalls at Markthalle Neun, it is a warming snack worth stopping for.
The savoury version comes with homemade Sichuan chilli oil. Chilli fragrance and Sichuan pepper give the gentle soybean flavour a distinct seasoning. Try a spoonful of tofu before mixing the toppings through to experience both sides of the bowl.

With noodles, or something sweet
Douhua noodles turn the snack into a fuller meal. A bite of chewy noodles alternates with a spoonful of soft tofu; chilli oil and pickled vegetables add further texture and flavour. Noodle lovers can also look out for the stall’s ranmian.

Brown sugar syrup and goji berries take douhua in a sweeter direction. The syrup adds sweetness while leaving the tofu’s texture noticeable. It works as a market snack or a gentle finish after something savoury.
This is a market stall, whose serving hours differ from the market building’s opening hours; check the schedule before making a special trip. The menu need not be long. Fresh douhua, savoury or sweet or with noodles, already gives you a reason to return for a different bowl.
